Meet Dr. Jon Swanson, the doctor who makes housecalls!

Jon followed an unconventional pathway to medicine. Born and raised in Omaha, he attended Iowa State University, majoring in both Chemistry and Physics. From Iowa State, he went on to Harvard University, where he obtained a PhD in Chemistry. After graduation, he worked in the pharmaceutical industry on both the East and West coasts for a number of years.

At the age of 52, after caring for his late mother who suffered from Alzheimer’s, Jon decided to change directions and become a physician. Jon attended Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine in New Jersey and completed his residency in Family Medicine at Bryn Mawr Hospital in suburban Philadelphia. Initially he practiced medicine in Pennsylvania. In 2020 the decision was made to move back to the Midwest to be closer to his roots; he is currently licensed in Iowa, Nebraska and Pennsylvania.

Jon’s close involvement with his mother’s care and his experiences during his Residency led him to the conclusion that corporate medicine had become far too impersonal. He observed that oftentimes providers have little time or interest in getting to know their patients and understand their needs.

At Swanson Family Medicine we strive to change this approach to medicine and endeavor to partner with our patients regarding their healthcare. Dr. Jon Swanson is a physician that will listen, be flexible in his hours to better suit the patient’s needs, and be the doctor that actually makes housecalls.
